Radiation Oncology

Amit Bhate, MD, is the board certified radiation oncology medical director, and son of Dr. Bharati Bhate, who founded Illinois Regional Cancer Center in 1993 as a joint venture with KishHealth System. Dr. Amit received his medical education from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and completed his radiation oncology residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he was chief resident. He completed his internship in internal medicine at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern, an externship in radiosurgery at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington DC, and an externship in proton therapy at Loma Linda University, California.

Dr. Bhate went into medicine to help others and he felt that oncology patients and their families were the people who needed this the most. He said, “I wanted to join in on the war against cancer.” He added, “In a small town setting, your care is more personal. You get more attention directly from the physician. I want to be the one who talks to the patient,” about his choice to practice at The Cancer Center. “I believe in treating every patient as I would treat my own family. I believe in being open and honest and going the extra mile for everybody. Not many doctors can say this, but I truly love my profession.”
